Smaller Homes Are On The Rise

Smaller homes are on the rise.  But why?  Interest rates are low, the economy is booming and people are looking for more custom features than ever in their homes…the answer might surprise you.  In this latest article from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) they outline what might be some of the driving reasons that smaller homes are more popular than ever.  At IQ, we often wrestle the idea of building a smaller home and including higher-end finishes.  But, in most cases the price of the land or lot we purchase drives the price of the home we have to build thus (in general) increasing the size of the home we have to build.  This could be one of the reasons why there is a shortage of available new construction homes in the price point and square footage that everyone seems to be looking for…In short, the conundrum that is todays topic of conversation is just that, a tough one to figure out.
